Presentate da Nick Jonas e Priyanka Chopra, le nomination per gli Oscar 2021 chiudono l’anno più difficile per il mondo del cinema. Anticipati dai Golden Globe assegnati poco più di due settimane fa, gli Oscar 2021 saranno una manifestazione sicuramente figlia dello strano tempo presente in cui ormai tutta la filiera si trova da esattamente un anno.
Annunciate con più di due mesi in ritardo rispetto alla tradizione, le nomination anticipano la cerimonia degli Oscar 2021 che si terrà domenica 25 aprile 2021, anche se sono ancora numerosi i nodi e i punti di domanda sulle modalità dell’evento più atteso dal mondo del cinema.
Sono 23 le categorie dei film nominati che si contenderanno il premio più ambito. A tornare protagonista sarà molto probabilmente la galassia delle piattaforme in streaming che in un anno di sale chiuse e proiezioni annullati ha saputo rispondere con prontezza, rendendosi più forte nel campo della distribuzione, ma soprattutto della produzione di film che hanno spaziato dal puro intrattenimento al cinema d’autore. Sono infatti sempre più numerosi i registi che hanno deciso di seguire il maggior colosso dello streaming Netflix in un progetto che promette di riportare il cinema al centro del mondo della cultura attraverso un’offerta sempre più capillare e completa.
Oltre al mondo dello streaming, il pluripremiato Nomadland di Chloé Zhao resta comunque tra i favoriti, Leone d’Oro alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia e miglior film drammatico agli ultimi Golden Globe, testimone del valore che i festival (in presenza) conservano nel mondo del cinema. Insieme a Chloé Zhao, sono numerose le donne, registe ma anche attrici, sceneggiatrici e musiciste che hanno saputo ritagliarsi uno spazio importante in un settore che per decenni si è considerato prettamente maschile. Tra queste, meritano una menzione Emerald Fennell e Carey Mulligan con Promising Young Woman, Regina King per One Night in Miami, Vanessa Kirby per Pieces of a Woman ma anche Viola Davis per Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom e Jasmine Zbanic con il film serbo-bosniaco Quo Vadis, Aida?, anche lui presentato lo scorso settembre alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia.
Nell’anno in cui la voce del movimento Black Lives Matter è tornata al centro del dibattito politico americano e internazionale, ritroviamo importanti film che riaccendono i riflettori sulla questione, tra cui One Night in Miami e Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, con la candidatura postuma di Chadwick Boseman come miglior attore protagonista.
Nonostante il film di Gianfranco Rosi Notturno non abbia ottenuto l’ambita nomination, anche l’Italia sarà presente agli Oscar del 2021 con Pinocchio di Matteo Garrone (nominato per miglior trucco e costumi) e Io sì (Seen) di Laura Pausini, in gara come miglior canzone per il film La Vita davanti a sé di Edoardo Ponti e con Sophia Loren.
